The Story Behind My Caribbean Cultural Style is a short film produced by Cultural Fashion and Arts CIC, which explores Jennifer’s connection with her Dominican heritage through the national dress and her fashion brand Sakafet London.
Noting the national wear can be made using floral and patterned fabrics, the film focuses on Jennifer’s love of the Caribbean madras fabric, its origins and its continued use today.
“This project has provided me with a wonderful opportunity to share my love of the beautiful Madras fabric and recognise the importance of it as a golden thread, which has evolved to link and unite many different groups of people across many different continents.
Within both the Caribbean and African diaspora our past and present has meaning and significance beyond the narrative we are taught. We are a strong, resilient, culturally rich and diverse people with a past worth remembering, a present worth celebrating and a vision for the future worth sharing”
